MicroPhysics Air Bearing Tape Guides

Air Tape Guides are now available for the MicroPhysics Tape Head Tester (THT).  These guides use clean dry compressed air to float the tape in order to reduce system friction. Tape tension measurements made at the location of the head (no head in system) produced the following results:

The above tables indicate that the system friction is reduced by a factor of 4.

 Friction at tape start and direction change is nearly eliminated.

 The air bearing system includes four pressurized tape guides and a pressurized vacuum column component.  The system also includes a filter/mist separator, two precision pressure regulators with gauges and all necessary air lines and connectors.
